My work explores the intersection of realism, restraint, and presence within wildlife subjects, using graphite as both a technical and expressive medium. I am drawn to moments where animals appear neither posed nor performative but fully embodied in their environment and authority. By limiting color and working primarily within value, I aim to heighten focus on anatomy, texture, and psychological weight. Selective use of charcoal allows me to deepen contrast without overwhelming the clarity of graphite. Each piece is constructed through careful layering and control, prioritizing structure before detail. Ultimately, my goal is to create drawings that feel quiet yet commanding, rewarding prolonged viewing and close observation.
