Artist's Biography:

I was born in 1959 in upstate New York and was particularly interested in portrait drawing and fashion design. My parents were extremely supportive and encouraged me to explore different art media; however, I always returned to the simple pencil to create my best work. My graphite pieces led to commissions, which satisfied me for awhile, however, I begin to have a longing for color. Being familiar with the pencil form, I investigated colored pencils. Three artists caught my attention with their work in this medium - Lee Hammond, Barbara Edidin, and Ann Kullberg. They each taught me something valuable, and my work today incorporates much of what initially drew me to them. Lee helped me understand perspective and the technical end of drawing. Barbara introduced me to lush florals, and Ann taught me how to paint portraits with colored pencil. I was featured in the March 2006 issue of Ann's Internet Magazine, "From My Perspective," as the artist of the month.

Since these formative years of exploring both graphite and color, I have expanded my portfolio to include children, equine, and pet portraits; florals; and buildings. Sales were brisk for the pet portraits; however, I have recently chosen to market my florals and children pieces as prints and cards. The floral line is "Heaven Scent" and the children's line is "Innocent Expressions." This reflects my spiritual beliefs and love for Jesus. My desire is to create work that honors Him and pleases family, friends and clients.

I work out of my simple studio at home and appreciate the support of my husband Jeff and children, Katharine and Abby Rose. The focus of my work now is in designing and creating the florals and children's pieces. I am honored to have been chosen as an Associate Member of the International Guild of Realism and am working on the marketing end of my art.

Artist's Statement:

My artistic passion tends toward traditional realism because that is how I view the world around me. I thrill to detail, color and exceptional lighting. My artwork is very meditative and can take awhile to complete because of the nature of colored pencil, so oftentimes I'll grab my camera for a quick creative fix. There is never a day that I'm not thinking about a current piece I'm working on or an idea for the next one!
